Can Do! Privacy Policy

www.ucando.org's privacy policy is in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (Coppa).
This page explains:
- How we receive information from people using this web site,
- The type of information we might receive from people using this site, and
- What we do with information submitted to the Can Do! web site.
How We Receive Information About Our Visitors
NO information about visitors to this web site is gathered without the user's knowledge. The only information we receive is information voluntarily submitted by users of this site.
The information we receive about you depends entirely on what you choose to do while visiting the Can Do! web site. There are primarily three ways of sending us information about yourself while visiting the Can Do! web site:
- Submitting information by participating in any of the Can Do! Activites
- Signing the Can Do! Guest Book
- Sending an e-mail
The Type of Information We Might Receive From Our Visitors
This web site will not ask for the home address, last name, city of residence, school name, or telephone number of any children under the age of 13. Children under the age of 13 are encouraged to participate in Can Do! writing, art, and ability survey activities without submitting their last name.
Can Do! offers a number of free, online activities in which children of all ages are welcome to participate. The purpose of these activities is to encourage children to appreciate their own individual differences, abilities, and dreams… as well as those of others around them.
Individuals who choose to participate in Can Do! Activities do so by submitting their story, dream, survey responses, or ideas to us through online forms. Information that is requested, but not required, on ALL activity forms aimed at children includes:
- FIRST name of participant,
- Age of participant,
- State/providence and country where the participant lives,
- E-mail address of participant*,
* The e-mail address of participants, no matter what the age, is NEVER posted on the Can Do! web site.
What We Do With the Information We Receive
Information received from users participating in Can Do! Activities is posted on the Can Do! web site for the purpose of inspiring present and future visitors, unless submissions are determined to be highly offensive. However, Can Do! greatly respects and values the privacy and safety of its visitors, especially our children and teen visitors. For this reason, we remove ALL personally-identifying information from submissions made by children AND teens before posting the information on the Can Do! web site.
* More Information About E-mail Addresses
- Children (individuals under the age of 13)
We will request a child's or parent's email address to provide notice and seek consent, to send a "thank you for participating" note (and then delete), to respond to a one time request (and then delete), or to work with a child in editing one feature to be published (this may take more that one email back and forth). In the case that we would need to continue communicating with the child for any reason, beyond responding to a one time request, we will contact the parent and give the parent the option to stop communication.
We NEVER post the e-mail address or any personally-identifying information of children or teens on the on the Can Do! web site.
- Teens & Adults
The e-mail addresses of TEENS and ADULTS who participate in any of the activities, or who sign the Can Do! Guest Book, will be added to our e-mailing list.
Visitors on our e-mailing list will be sent OCCASIONAL updates about the Can Do! web site when new activities or key information is added to the Can Do! web site, or to share other information that we feel might be of special interest to our visitors.
If you receive occasional Can Do! updates and news via e-mail and you would like your e-mail address removed from our e-mailing list, simply send a request for removal to mbush@ucando.org.
If you would like your name added to the Can Do! e-mailing list, please sign the Can Do! Guest Book, and be sure to include your e-mail address.
Third Parties
Personally-identifying information submitted by children (individuals under the age of 13) will NEVER be sold, distrubted, or shared with any third party entity.
E-mail addresses submitted to the Can Do! Web Site by teens and adults are also never sold, distributed, or shared with any third party, with one, very limited and specific exception: In the case of teens and adults who voluntarily sign-up to receive the free StarGuides newsletter from our friends at FableVision when signing the Can Do! Guest Book.
FableVision is an animation and publishing studio in the Boston area with a mission to create "stories that matter, stories that move." FableVision creates, publishes, and distributes the StarGuides newsletter. Therefore, when Can Do! guests indicate that they would like their name and mailing address added to the StarGuides mailing list, we do so by forwarding the name, e-mail address, and mailing address of those individuals to FableVision. FableVision will not share, sell, or distribute to third parties the names, e-mail addresses, or postal addresses of anyone on their StarGuides mailing list.
Since we will not share any personally-identifying information about children with third parties, we ask that children ages 12 and under NOT sign up for the StarGuides newsletter through the Can Do! web site.
